"Return to me, for I have redeemed you… I have blotted out your transgressions like a cloud, and your sins like a mist." - Isaiah 44:21-23

History

Prior to Absolution was a pack of hellhounds named Nefarious. Godless and demonic, blood pooled in their wake as they tore ruthlessly through their world in the name of nothing but chaos itself. To pin these creatures as completely devoid of morals, however, would be an insincere and incomplete belief. When the Sovereign breached the sanctity of his role to commit an unspeakable crime on another member of the Pack, a wave of scorned wolves rose to overtake him, driving vengeance with claw and fang. As a result, some of the wolves fled camp, seeking to distance themselves from the mindless violence and betrayal. Days passed and answers were never found. The remaining wolves gathered, mentally prepared to head back to camp and face the wrath of their Sovereign.

What they found instead left them trembling with fear, awe, and reverence. None had expected the mighty blow God dealt down upon them. The moment the blazing sun kissed the horizon of the foreboding grey sky, a chasm, formed of their vindictive god’s displeasure tore through the earth of the camp. The wolves remaining within were dragged into the unfathomable depths below.

Shaken by their God's wrath and the river of blood spilled, Nefarious reformed itself with the aim to put needless bloodshed on the backburner (...for now), and God-fearing at the forefront. The Absolved will do everything in their power to please their God, move past their Sovereign's tyrannical reign, and ensure nothing like their past ever happens again. However, no amount of socio-political sophistication will change the fact that the wolves of Absolution are sinners at heart. They may call themselves the Absolved, but salvation is still quite a ways away…

The true nature of Absolution can be likened to the sanctification process. Once a spurned, hellish array of war-ridden demons, these wolves transfigured into a monolith built on holy fear and reverence struck into them by the hand of God himself. Cursed to bear the form of a wicked beast, they contrast the weight of their sins with an unfathomable tenacity. Through ages of suffering and struggle for power, these hounds have formed and reformed their hierarchy, eventually settling on a system of beliefs that would inherit their newfound grace, a system that gave voice to peace and numbers despite the draw of their dearest, most true and sinister machinations. With the intention of eradicating any subsequent seizure of power, they inadvertently gave birth to a rot that spreads quietly from within. Corruption rises, taking the form of hushed whispers around corners, baleful alliances, and a chronic uncertainty... yet faith clings to them. They live in repressed fear of punishment, striving for altruism and amity, but secretly delight in evil when presented the opportunity. With the guidance of a new system and equipped with the word of their Lord, these wolves have abandoned their demonic fate, but remain willing to cross any line, as long as it secures their position in the divine order.
